From Saturday, July 17, through Friday, July 23, Little League Baseball held its sectional tournaments throughout Northern California. Of the local teams involved, only one emerged from the tournament to advance to the next phase of the tournament season.

That team - Union City American Little League's senior all-stars, winning the Section 3 Senior League tournament at Max Baer Park in Livermore.

UCA, representing District 45, opened with a 10-9 win over District 14's Mission San Jose on July 17 before taking down District 67's Tracy Little League, 6-0. Tracy survived its elimination match and beat UCA, 11-1, to force a winner-take-all match on July 23, but UCA handled them in that match, 5-1, to advance to the Senior League Divisional All-Star Tournament - with the winner to represent Northern California in the West Regional Tournament.

In the Section 3 Junior Little League double elimination tournament at Gomes Elementary School in Fremont, the local little league teams of District 45's Mt. Eden and District 14's Niles-Centerville meet in an elimination semifinal match on Wednesday, July 21.

Mt. Eden was downed, 8-2, by District 52's Half Moon Bay on Monday, July 19, while Niles prevailed in its first elimination match, 18-8, over District 57's San Ramon to set up the match-up for the right to play Half Moon Bay in the finals.

It was all Niles, who won 10-3, putting them in the championship on Thursday, July 22. But Half Moon Bay, having a day of rest under their belt, would only need Thursday's game to claim the Section 3 title with an 8-5 win.

Half Moon Bay advanced to the Junior Nor Cal Divisional Tournament at American River College in Sacramento with the win. After a 10-1 loss on Saturday, July 24, to Section 5, Hollister National, they took on Section 2, Chico Westside needing a win to extend its season. Results were unavailable at press time, but the score can be found at

And in the Section 3 Majors Little League tournament, also held at Gomes Elementary School, District 57 San Ramon Little League outlasted the rest, beating District 67 Tracy, 7-3, in the championship to advance to the Nor Cal Divisional Tournament, held at Vacaville Central Little League.

Section 3's representative opened up its tournament with a 5-2 loss to Section 5 Hollister National, and took on Section 6, River Park, on Monday - score unavailable at press.
