Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight

This week the player spotlight goes to Union City for a visit with basketball player Taryn Noriega.

With basketball as her sport of choice, she has dedicated herself to over two solid years of basketball play and practice which has made Noriega a player to be noticed. Since the second grade she has played for the Christian Youth Organization, St. Anne's Mavericks team as a point guard and is looking ahead for more.

Keeping in peak shape is important for all athletes and Taryn finds it fun and easy to accomplish this by integrating another enjoyable sport into her daily regime. It's a form of mixed martial arts wrestling which gives her agility and the confidence she needs to succeed in basketball.

Noriega will soon be starting fifth grade at Eastin Elementary School with writing as a favorite subject for the past few years. There's one teacher that will always stand out for her and that is Mrs. Janja. Taryn says she was a great teacher, as she encouraged the students to explore their ideas. Her career goal is one that's competitive of course, and that's to become an actor or comedian -- mainly to entertain others.

The fun side of life for this young lady has shopping at the top of her list and dancing whenever she can especially hula or Tahitian style; sometimes at the beach during a luau. There's no hesitation when ordering dinner for Taryn, it will be steak for sure, followed with a trip to BJ's Brewhouse for a Chocolate Chunk Pizookie.
