Election Acknowledged receipt of June 8, 2010, General Municipal Election results. On June 8, there were 55,234 registered voters in Hayward. 16,690 ballots were cast with voter-turnout of 30.22 percent. Michael Sweeney was re-elected as Mayor with 13,085 votes (97.34 percent). Marvin Peixoto and Mark Salinas were elected as councilmen with 7,140 votes (29.52 percent) and 6,200 votes (25.63 percent), respectively. Sara Lamnin received 4,989 votes (20.63 percent), Ralph R. Farias Jr., 2,337 votes (9.66 percent), Steve Oiwa, 1,759 votes (7.27 percent) and Lawrence Fitzpatrick, 1,665 votes (6.84 percent).

City Clerk Miriam Lens administered the oath of office for re-elected Mayor Michael Sweeney and elected Councilmen Marvin Peixoto and Mark Salinas.

Public Comment Doug Ligibel congratulated Mayor Sweeney on his re-election and thanked the City Council for the work they have done. He also asked Council members Francisco Zermeno, Barbara Halliday and Olden Henson to reconsider their position on Arizona SB 1070 (Support Our Law Enforcement and Safe Neighborhoods Act) and focus on matters in Hayward rather than in another state.
