Newark American Minors fall over weekend
By Jeff Weisinger
After defeating the Mission San Jose Little League in the District 45 Minor 10/11 All-Stars Tournament, 6-4, on Wednesday, July 14, Newark American could not keep the winning momentum in last weekend's Section 3 tournament, falling in back-to-back games at the Union City American Little League field.
On Saturday, July 17, NALL fell 4-0 in the opening game to District 57's Danville Little League before bowing out of the tournament with an 8-7 loss to District 67's Tracy on Sunday, July 18.
Meanwhile, the District 45 representative Union City National Little League had no better luck. UCN went up against District 52's Palo Alto National on Sunday, July 18. Palo Alto got to the contest by ousting District 67's Tracy American, 9-0, on Saturday.
Palo Alto made easy work of UCN, blowing them out to the tune of 19-0, sending the D45 rep to the losers' bracket to take on Tracy, while advancing down the winners' bracket to play Danville. UCN and Tracy battled in their elimination match at San Lorenzo American Little League's field while Palo Alto and Danville remained at the UCA field for their games on Monday, July 19 (results unavailable at press).
Section 3's Minor 10/11 tournament will conclude with the championship game on Wednesday, July 21, with a potential winner-take-all match on Thursday, July 22 (if the team out of the losers' bracket wins on Wednesday). Log onto sports.tricityvoice.com for results as they happen.
