July 20, 2010 > Governor signs Spouse Protection Bill Governor signs Spouse Protection Bill Submitted By Andrea McCarthy Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger has approved the Spouse Protection Bill. Assembly Bill 2674 - 'Family law: exemplary damages' by Assemblyman Marty Block, a Democrat from San Diego, will take effect in January of next year. Spouses who solicit the murder of their husband or wife will not be entitled to collect benefits in divorce proceedings. When a spouse is convicted of attempting to murder the other spouse, the injured spouse shall be entitled to 100% of the community property interest in his or her retirement and pension benefits.
