Theatre: Broadway Bound coming to Castro Valley
Submitted By Floyd Wayne
Neil Simon's hit show "Broadway Bound" is opening at the Chanticleers Theatre in Castro Valley on Friday night, July 23 at 8 p.m. Time magazine referred to "Broadway Bound" as "The best play of the 1980's" and the NY Post called it "the most successful non-musical in American theatre history. The show is about a family's dreams: grandpas, moms, dads, and their Broadway-bound sons.'
KGO radio personality, Marty Nemko, directs and, from auditions held on May 24, has assembled a fine cast of actors from all over the Bay Area. The cast includes the husband and wife team of Chris Chapman (Jack) and Sue Trigg (Kate) (of Oakland) as the parents of the boys Stanley and Eugene, played by Patrick Barresi (of San Francisco) and Brady Woolery (of El Cerrito). Karol Strempke (of Alameda) portrays Blanche and Kip Wixson (of Castro Valley) is Ben.
Chanticleers, Castro Valley's oldest theatre company (formerly The Little Red School House in Palomares Canyon), has been entertaining audiences since 1948. For 62 years, the group has performed some 190 shows.

There will be talk-back sessions for audience members after Sunday twilight matinee performances on August 1, 8 and 15. This is your chance to ask questions and hear special behind-the-scenes tidbits from the director and the entire cast.
