The Alameda County Office Board of Education (ACOE) President, Eileen McDonald recently welcomed fitness expert Lorrie Sullenberger for a kick-off event to promote health and wellness to ACOE employees. The meeting was held at ACOE's headquarters in Hayward.
Sullenberger discussed the challenges of weight loss and her journey towards mindful eating and physical exercise. She provided the audience tips for weight loss and healthy eating, including using salad plates for dinner to alter one's perspective on food intake and awareness of what a serving should be, and adopting a "calorie bank system."
"Only eat as much as you burn, become aware of what you are eating and keep track," said Sullenberger. " If you are going to eat something, eat it because you really want to not because you have to, make the calorie intake worth the effort of burning it out."
Participants received pedometers provided by Patricia Danielson, Board Member of the Washington Hospital Health Care District in Fremont.
"We are proud of our wellness policy which reflects a well balanced program of nutrition and physical activity for students, staff, and community members," said Sheila Jordan, Superintendent of Alameda County Schools. "We thank Mrs. Sullenberger for speaking to our staff and for her valuable insights."
Mrs. Lorrie Sullenberger is on the Governor's Physical Fitness Council and is the wife of Captain Chesley (Sully) Sullenberger, who safely glided a stricken US Airways jet onto the Hudson River last year.
