Summer is sizzling
The Loving Spoonful had it right when they opened their hit single with the phrase, "Hot town, summer in the city" followed by the observation, "despite the heat, it'll be alright." The temperature in our area is finally heating up and so is the music. This weekend is just the beginning of summer fun, packed with almost any type of event necessary to fill the days with "hot" sounds and keep evenings "cool."
Newark hosts its annual Summerfest, a feast of music, microbrews, cars and crafts. Hayward celebrates its past with the Russell City Blues and the next in a series of Street Parties. Milpitas hosts its own concert series and Fremont has begun its summer concert series at Central Park. Union City continues Saturday concerts with a Farmers' Market and Niles is celebrating a new Town Plaza with a concert series. Want to strike up the band? A drum and bugle corps competition is set for Saturday at Tak Fudenna Stadium in Fremont. Whether you are in the mood for strenuous physical activities or lounging in a shady spot and listening to cool music, it's all happening in our local communities.
