Bill Mancebo's Player Spotlight
This week the player spotlight lands in Milpitas for a visit with swimming sensation Maria Paquette.
Soon to be 13 and moving up to the eighth grade, Paquette chooses swimming as the sport that floats her boat. Competing in the senior division for the Milpitas Tidal Waves she practices three times a week which prepares her for swim meets where she races on a monthly basis.
Maria also plays tennis to improve her agility and balances that with her six years of experience in gymnastics. Having some ice skating experience has also helped in rounding out her complete package of athletic prowess.
She is currently attending Thomas Russell Middle School in Milpitas; where she enjoys science and PE. As Maria is always thinking ahead, she has already attended a theater workshop at Milpitas High School as drama is her favorite subject.
Her main goal in life is to successfully become an actor. She finds the craft of a thespian to be quite challenging. She says that her latest role of Miss Broadway in Bulldog Saves the Day was a big challenge, as it required her full focus to memorize 210 lines and deliver them in a convincing manner. Science and PE can always be used later to attain a scholarship that will take her to the top.
What does Maria like to do when she's not acting, swimming or skating? Probably playing the video game Mabinogi or jamming on the piano. A hobby and passion for her, she's been a practicing pianist for six years. The goal to improve her bilingual skills is important too and more fun than it is work. Her mom helps her with that and so does the weekly lessons.
Family barbeques and her cat, Felix, occupy the remainder of that time but she also manages to squeeze in a little extra to think about her upcoming venture to Alaska. This complex, young lady has a simple yearning for food and when given the choice she'll order pasta for dinner and watermelon for dessert.
