Cardoza Park Phase 1 opening
Submitted By Jennifer Valentine
Phase 1 renovations of Cardoza Park on Kennedy Drive (east of North Park Victoria Drive), Milpitas, will be available for the community's enjoyment on Tuesday, July 13. Mayor Livengood and Council will welcome residents and visitors to the park. The event will include a dance floor across which guests can move to the salsa sounds of Orquesta Borinquen. Pollution-prevention and recycling booths will distribute free re-usuable shopping bags and information about creek clean-up events to the public.
Funded by the City of Milpitas Capital Improvement Program Fund ($720,000), Cardoza Park fulfills the city's priority to improve the quality of life for Milpitas residents.
Features include new playground equipment that exceeds safety requirements, additional high-pressure sodium lighting for improved pedestrian and parking lot safety, shade structures over new playgrounds and picnic areas, barbecues with hot ash receptacles and landscaping. The park also received new drainage and an electrical cabinet to meet code requirements. Cardoza Park is readily accessible for individuals with disabilities in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
The Cardoza Park re-opening event coincides with one of the summer concert series performances. Parking is available on Kennedy Drive and at the Milpitas Sports Center.
