East Bay Swim League's Newark Bluefins defeated the Highland Sharks, 600.5-444.5, in a Southern Division EBSL dual meet on Saturday, June 26.
Sam Haber and Jennifer Wang set team records Saturday: Haber in the 15- to 18-year-old boys Individual Medley; Wang in the 9- to 10-year-old girls 25 yard butterfly.
Haber led all scorers with 20 points. Joshua Tsai also added 20 while Wang added 18; Tory Gerome, Albert Lee and Emily Loaisiga each scored 16. The Bluefins had a total of 23 swimmers in double figures.
The Bluefins managed to set 108 seasonal personal records led by 7-year-old Jacob Pearsall who improved his 25-yard butterfly mark by a whopping 18.88 seconds, while 6-year-old Clara Galant improved her 25-yard butterfly time by 10.04 seconds.
"Our younger swimmers are beginning to show dramatic improvement," said Bevery Tillman, president of the Bluefins. "We are so proud of them."
"The Bluefins offer a strong environment for improvement as the older swimmers not only help the younger swimmers but they cheer for them too," added Debbie Longarini, Bluefins vice president. "Having a positive, fun environment has led to approximately 95 percent of our swimmers returning year after year."
"We have fun" said Trinity Gerome, who improved her 50 Free mark by nearly a full second.
Newark's Bluefins will look to have more fun in two weeks at its next duel meet, Saturday, July 10, against the Glenmoor Stingrays.
