Submitted By Lucinda Bender
The Fremont Art Association (FAA) is pleased to announce their July guest artist, Erik Holland. His specialties as a painter include landscapes and old buildings. Holland will demonstrate acrylic painting at the FAA Gallery on Wednesday, July 7 at 7 p.m. Light refreshments will be served.
Holland is a painter, cartoonist and teacher. He has had a one-man show every year since 2000 in the Reno area and strives for a certain "sparkle" to his loose, boldly executed paintings. Holland is working on a line of note cards that will celebrate an old building from every town in the state of Nevada as well as the wild parts of Northern California. His paintings have won many awards including a Professional Artists grant from Sierra Arts, a Best of Show at Faces and Places 2006 and several awards from the Nevada Artists Association.
Holland has also painted several murals in Alaska and in Nevada and recently completed a Wheeler Peak mural on the Elmcrest Elementary School building in Reno. He exhibits his work at the Co-op Gallery and Catherine Bouwer Fine Art Gallery in Reno, and at Vigil's Collection in Nevada City. Holland also draws cartoons for several Nevada publications, including the Nevada Rancher, the Sparks Tribune, the Record-Courier, Petfolio, and the Nevada Observer. He teaches art at Rainshadow Charter High School, as well as with Sierra Arts and Very Special Arts.
