Plein-air painting workshop
Submitted By Patty O'Rourke
The Fremont Art Association is honored to once again present an outstanding artist and instructor, Laura Williams, who will focus on an in-depth understanding and mastering of design and composition, truly the most important element in any painting.
Explore breaking up graphic space as the key frame in the architecture of great painting using the Golden Section. Examine the principle of threes: small, medium and large for dynamic compositions. Center on attracting and guiding your viewer, enhance rhythmic linear movement from side to side, express compositional schemes of unity and balance as described by Edgar Payne and note the things to avoid.
This workshop is designed for students of all levels. Predominantly a plein-air painter, Williams will demonstrate how to paint a landscape indoors quickly and relatively small. We will work from photos or even a still life in the medium of your choice-oil or acrylic. The focus of the workshop will include design, composition, value, color and brush work. Participants will paint and the instructor will provide personal assistance.
A great workshop experience and a good time will be had by all. Williams has been teaching workshops and displaying her art work for a number of years throughout the San Francisco Bay Area, Yosemite, and the Wine Country. Her artwork has received numerous awards. Williams will also be presenting two additional Plein-Air Workshops overflowing with yet more techniques in July. For more information contact Patty O'Rourke (510) 487-1099 or email: patty_orourke_art@yahoo.com or Laura Williams (415) 398-2103 or email: Laura@LauraWilliamsArt.com
