NCLL Nationals drop MSJLL Giants
Submitted By Ed Hugo
Missian San Jose Little League Senior Giants' Brandon Fuhs took to the hill and gave it everything he had as he held a talented Niles-Centerville Little League Nationals team to a single earned run over five and two thirds innings. Fuhs struck out seven batters and only walked one as he effectively mixed his fastball and off-speed pitches. Kenny Jacoby relieved Fuhs and pitched well in his inning and a third of work. But the Giants' bats were held to only two hits as they dropped the well-played game, 5-1.
Both teams scored a single run in the first inning with the Giants' Jeff Chu scoring on a nicely executed double steal. NCLL scored their second run in the third inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Giants offense was continually frustrated as several well-hit balls were turned into outs by the fine NCLL defense. The Giants left 10 runners on base in the contest.
The pitcher's duel remained tight entering the sixth inning when the Giants' usually reliable defense committed four errors which led to three unearned run as NCLL built their lead to 5-1. The Giants staged a brief rally in the seventh inning but were unable to come up with a clutch hit after getting runners on base.
