After winning five straight Independent Women's Football League games, the Bay Area Bandits are limping into the postseason, having lost two in a row to end the season, the most recent a 26-22 come-from-behind win by the So Cal Scorpions at Tak Fudenna Memorial Stadium on Saturday, June 5.
Bay Area entered the second half of the game ahead of the Scorpions -- who beat the Bandits at its home in San Diego a week ago, 43-6 -- with a 14-7 lead, courtesy of a Sandra Hernandez pass to Danielle Golay (with a Hernandez rush for a two-point conversion) and a Dakura Smith four-yard run.
So Cal answered back from the 14-0 deficit with a three-play drive that culminated in a Melissa Gallegos one-yard plunge to cut the lead in half.
Fremont's women's pro football team went into the locker room holding onto that touchdown advantage but came out in the second half and allowed the Scorpions to run up 19 points en route to a four-point win.
In the IWFL Divisional Playoffs on Saturday, June 12, the Bandits will host the Modesto Maniax. Modesto came into Tak on May 22 and the Bandits wiped the floor with them, 47-8. Kickoff at Tak in the Bandits first playoff game is at 1 p.m.
