The Fremont Senior Center meal program is one of the best-kept secrets in Fremont. Each day, Chefs Ron Narayan and Jeff Castillo, assisted by a team of good spirited volunteers, prepare a fresh, hot meal. The Senior Center is able to function because of the kindness of the community. Food donations and volunteers allow the center to provide low cost meals.
Chef Ron has been working at the center for seven years and appreciates the relationships he's been able to build. "The center is not just a building, it's a community - alive and breathing," says Narayan. He adds, "I don't know what I'd do without the volunteers."
Throughout the month a different dish is served every day. As a volunteer at the center, I help in the kitchen and can attest to the high quality of food and outstanding character of the staff. These meals are a bargain!
The center not only serves a delicious meal, but is a vibrant hub of activity among friendly and caring people. One longtime Senior Center member, Bill Roberts says, "These are the greatest people in the world."
Eleanor Mathias who has been volunteering at the center for 17 years works out regularly and enjoys the facilities. "It's nice fixing meals for people. The center is a good place to go."
Everyone, especially seniors is invited to come by and enjoy a scrumptious lunch, excellent service and good people. As Morrie, one of the kitchen staff, puts it, "This meal's a winner."
