Beginning Monday, June 14 law enforcement officers and Special Olympic athletes will carry Special Olympics Torches through the streets of Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and San Francisco Counties. On June 25, the torches will reach University of California at Davis for the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Special Olympics Northern California Summer Games.
Officers from the Milpitas Police Department will join over 75 other participating agencies by running with Special Olympic athletes through the City of Milpitas on Monday, June 21 from 2:25 p.m. to 3 p.m. Special Olympics offers persons with developmental disabilities an opportunity to participate in the summer games, made possible by support from volunteers and community members.
Editor's Note: Fremont, Newark and Union City Police will join the Torch run on June 22. |
