Kiwanis Club of Fremont to award Turnaround scholarships
Submitted By Allen Sprague
On May 25th, the Kiwanis Club of Fremont will host a dinner honoring students and will give out ten $1,000 turnaround scholarships. Turnaround scholarships provide recognition and financial assistance to at risk high school seniors who have "turned around" their life after a disastrous start in high school. This year's recipients have overcome problems such as sexual abuse, loss of parents, incarceration, expulsion from school, extreme cultural changes, discrimination, teen pregnancy, and alcohol abuse.
2010 honorees are: Leslie Arne C. Salvador from James Logan, Dulce Cardenas from Newark Memorial, Alex Guerra from Newark Memorial, Juan Coronado-Ramos from Irvington, Vinciana Marie Reed from Robertson, Juan Bernal from American, John Vargas from American, Sandy Ochoa from Irvington, and Ian Meyers from Newark Memorial.
These courageous young people have overcome tremendous obstacles, and the Kiwanis Club of Fremont is proud to help them move forward and achieve their goals.
Turnaround Scholarship Dinner Tuesday, May 25 6 p.m.- 8 p.m. Villa Ragusa 35 South 2nd St., Campbell (408) 364- 1900 |
