Over one-hundred 10, 11 and 12-year-olds from 10 local Major Division little league teams will invade Warm Springs Little League's pristine fields over Memorial Day weekend for the WSLL Memorial Day Classic Baseball Tournament.
Four teams that survive two days of 15 total qualifying games will compete on Monday, May 31st for the honor of being named "WSLL Memorial Day Classic Champion."
The tournament -- which is free to spectators and includes 10 different teams from Centerville, Mission San Jose and Warm Springs -- begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday, May 29, concluding with the championship game, Monday, May 31, at 2 p.m. There will also be five games Sunday, May 30, beginning at noon.
Local District 14 (Little League International) leagues sending teams to compete in the Memorial Day Classic include: Centerville American LL (2 teams), Centerville National LL (2), Mission San Jose LL (1) and host Warm Springs LL (5). Warm Springs' contingent includes the 2009 Memorial Day Classic defending champion WSLL Major Cardinals.
As an added incentive to participating players, those who clear the fence with a home run get to keep the ball they hit, and receive a ticket redeemable for food, drinks or treats at the WSLL Snack Shack. Last year's WSLL Memorial Day Classic included multiple tape-measure home runs.
In addition to the games themselves, Warm Springs Little League and its local sponsoring businesses will be offering ongoing raffles and prizes in addition to WSLL's famous open-air barbecue.
First pitch times for each of the three tournament days are Saturday, May 29, at 8 a.m.; Sunday, May 30, at noon; and Monday, May 31, at 10:15 a.m.
