MSJLL Senior Giants Drop Two Straight
Submitted By Ed Hugo
The Mission San Jose Little League (MSJLL) Senior Giants dropped two games last week as their bats were silenced by some fine pitching performances.
The Giants lost to the Newark Rockies, 3-0, as the Newark pitchers struck out 11 Giants batters. After a shaky first inning, Giants hurler Kevin Finch settled down to shut down the Newark attack over the next four innings.
However, the Giants could not capitalize on some late scoring opportunities as they loaded the bases in the fifth and seventh innings but could not push a run across. Chris Lo collected two hits to pace the Giants' offense.
The Giants dropped their other contest, 5-1, to the Niles Centerville Red Sox as they could not capitalize on several scoring opportunities. Patrick Yang took the mound for the Giants and was touched for three, first inning runs before settling down to keep the Niles bat in check.
Kenny Jacoby relieved Yang in the fourth inning and pitched well, giving up two unearned runs over three innings. But the story of the game was the inability of the Giants to come through with a clutch hit as they left runners on second and third in four different innings. The Giants' Kevin Finch had a nice day at the plate as he stroked out three hits including a long double, and teammate Ian Dickeson rapped out two singles.
