Police search for assault suspect

Submitted By Lt. Chris Orrey, Hayward PD

On Wednesday, May 19 at approximately 1:35 a.m., Hayward Police officers responded to a call of a person down and apparently unconscious on B Street near Grand Avenue in Hayward. Responding officers found the victim, a young adult male from Hayward, lying on his back near the south sidewalk of B Street just west of the BART and railroad tracks. The victim was transported to Eden Hospital via ambulance and admitted. He appeared to have suffered a traumatic head injury. His condition is critical but stable at this time.

The preliminary investigation suggests that the victim knew the suspects, who have been identified but not yet arrested. There is indication of an argument between the victim and one of the suspects prior to the assault. No further information is being released on the suspects or victim at this time to protect the integrity of the investigation.

BART police department and members of the Hayward community have been instrumental in assisting the Hayward Police Department in this investigation. Anybody with information about this incident should call Inspector Fraser Ritchie or any available inspector or detective through the Crime Stoppers line at (510) 293-7197. Crime Stoppers of Southern Alameda County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest. To be eligible for the reward, you must call the Crime Stoppers of Alameda County Hotline. Callers may be anonymous and get a reward.
