May 18, 2010 > Fremont mother and infant daughter found dead in a house fire Fremont mother and infant daughter found dead in a house fire Submitted By Detective Bill Veteran A 33 year-old female and her four and a half month old infant daughter were found dead in a suspected murder-suicide in Fremont. The victims have been identified as Lakshmi Ashok and Alamelu Ramanathan. On Tuesday, May 11 at approximately 6:15 in the evening the Fremont Police and Fire Departments responded to a possible structure fire at 4511 Leonato Wy. Firefighters saw smoke coming from an upstairs bedroom and forced entry into the room, where they found the two victims deceased on the floor. Although it is obvious that the victims succumbed to injuries sustained from the fire, the deaths are considered suspicious. The Fremont Police Department's Investigative Unit is currently investigating the incident, along with arson investigators from the Fremont Fire Department. According to Detective Bill Veteran, results of the autopsy revealed nothing inconsistent with cause of death as a result of exposure to smoke or fire. Toxicology results are pending, as investigators treat the case as a murder or suicide.
