At a recent luncheon, our local division of the California Retired Teachers' Association reconnected with youth community needs. The featured speakers were representatives from the Oakland Green Youth Arts and Media Center. Their mission is to be a creative empowerment hub in Oakland that supports personal, professional, economic, and community development.
The group also has adopted rural schools in India and Haiti. An example of an East Oakland endeavor is growing produce to sell where only liquor stores currently exist. To learn more go to www.greenyoutharts.org.
Another example of "seeds of hope" (caring for the future), were the stacks of books donated to Kidango's Children's Services at the recent CalRTA (California Retired Teachers' Association) luncheon.
