Hayward Youth Commission applications
Submitted By Miriam Lens
The Hayward Youth Commission (HYC) meets the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. with a pre-planned agenda. The Commission's goal is to advise the Mayor and City Council, and the elected boards of the Hayward Area Recreation and Park District (HARD) and the Hayward Unified School District (HUSD) about issues that affect young people in the Hayward community. Members may also work on a number of projects and activities throughout the year, such as identifying youth needs, organizing youth conferences, etc.
Applicants are interviewed by a committee of representatives from each of the three elected bodies who then recommend new members for approval by the three agencies. Commissioners are eligible for reappointment to additional terms as long as they continue to meet the qualifications for membership and have actively participated in Commission meetings.
Eligible applicants must live in the City of Hayward or within the boundaries of the Hayward Unified School District AND be aged 13 - 20 years at the time of appointment. Serving on the HYC also counts towards community service hours.
Applications and further information may be obtained from the Office of the City Clerk, 777 B Street, Hayward, by calling (510) 583-4400 or by visiting the City's website at www.hayward-ca.gov. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 2, 2010.
Applications should be submitted to the Office of the City Clerk on or before 5 p.m. Thursday, May 27, 2010. Postmarks are not acceptable; applications must be received by the deadline.
