Spring members art show
By Patsy Ledbetter
If you believe variety is the spice of life, then you'll love the Spring Members Art Show sponsored by the Hayward Arts Council. This show runs through July 17 at the Green Shutter Hotel in Hayward. While at the show, you may see a sculptor of a Peruvian woman and child, or a photograph of a 1915 Dodge in the middle of a bluegrass festival. Some of the other art forms used are oils, acrylics, ceramics, wood blocks, and water colors.
Guadalupe Agbabiak, business manager for the City Arts Council wants to promote a warm and inviting atmosphere during this show. She loves some of the beautiful floral water color pictures displayed.
Retired police officer and participating artist Chuck Nelson loves creating images with his camera and computer. The beauty of northern California is something he is passionate about. In his photograph entitled "Blue on Blue," he has superimposed a blue jay discovered in his backyard onto a beautiful blue sky near the Sacramento River Canyon. John Warner is another of the great artists, and loves to paint tropical locations with water colors, hoping his viewers will feel that they are actually in Hawaii. Sculptor Beverly Gagnet-Mota uses glazes and terra-cotta in her depictions of a Peruvian woman with a child and a Seminole warrior. Some of the other artists are Helane Miscobich, who specializes in acrylics, and Chris Egan, a ceramics expert.
In addition to the show, there will be an artist's reception on Saturday, June 5 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Delicious finger foods and various drinks will be served with artwork available for purchase.
To become a member of the Hayward Arts Council, an application must be filled out along with payment of a minimal fee. Members are then free to display their art at particular member showings throughout the year.
