Solar panels theft
By Meenu Gupta
Four Solar panels installed earlier this year at Hayward High were recently stolen from the campus. According to Hayward Police Officer, Sergeant Jeff Snell, the thefts occurred sometime between Saturday, April 24, 3 p.m. and Sunday, April 25, 10 a.m. Each solar panel is worth about $1,000 plus installation labor costs. The converter device that connected the panels to the school grid is also missing. The lock on the Second Street gate was cut, allowing access to the Hayward High School field. "It appears that the lock on the gate was cut by the same suspect(s) that committed the theft, because that lock was intact prior to the discovery of the crime," Sgt. Snell told TCV. "We have not developed any suspect description or information yet, but the investigation is still open," he said. Anyone with information about the theft can call Officer Rod Pierce at (510) 293-7000.
