Hayward seeks board, commission, committee and task force applicants

Hayward City Council is seeking residents interested in serving their community. The following openings exist:

¥ Citizens Advisory Commission (3 vacancies, potentially 6 more);
¥ Planning Commission (1 vacancy, potentially 3 more);
¥ Human Services Commission (No current vacancies, but potentially 2 vacancies);
¥ Library Commission (1 vacancy, potentially 2 vacancies);
¥ Economic Development Committee (1 vacancy, potentially 1 more);
¥ Downtown Business Improvement Area Advisory Board (1 vacancy);
¥ Keep Hayward Clean and Green Task Force (KHCG) (6 vacancies);
¥ Personnel and Affirmative Action Commission (3 potential vacancies).

Appointees to these commissions serve in an advisory capacity to the City Council.

Applicants applying for all commissions above must reside within the Hayward city limits and be a registered voter. Applicants for the Downtown Business Improvement Area Advisory Board need not live in Hayward; however, they must own a business in the city's Downtown Business Improvement Area and pay assessments. Applicants for the Economic Development Committee could either be a resident of Hayward or do business in the City of Hayward. Please be aware there is a requirement for some of the commissions/committees/task force to file a Statement of Economic Interests Form 700.

An informational Volunteer Open House will be held Monday, May 24 from 6-9 p.m. at City Hall. Representatives from all the Boards, Commissions, Committees, and KHCG Task Force will be there to answer questions. Interested residents/business owners are encouraged to attend to find out more about how to apply, what to expect and how they can contribute.

Applications and further information may be obtained from the Office of the City Clerk, by calling (510) 583-4400 or by visiting the City's website at www.hayward-ca.gov. Interviews with the City Council are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, July 27. Applicants will be notified when the date is confirmed.

The deadline for submitting applications is Monday, July 16, 2010, before 5 p.m.
