Odessa Staggers, Chair of Hayward-South Alameda County NAACP presented Councilor Bill Quirk with a plaque, pen and Silver Lifetime membership of NAACP.
Jim Drake asserted the Board of Education would like to substitute a simple majority vote (50 percent plus one) for the current two-thirds required to pass a school-district measure and that the Board intends to place a $250 parcel tax on a future ballot. He questioned the need to raise funds given the Interim Superintendent's remuneration of almost $1,000 per day ($5,000 per week) and the six-figure salaries paid to some district office staff whilst noting HUSD ranks poorly.
HUSD Board member Jesus Armas refuted Jim Drake's allegations regarding voting and a parcel tax.
Ben Henderson, CEO & Director, East Bay Aviators, Inc. announced the third annual Open House at Hayward Executive Airport for July 10. Organized in conjunction with the Bay Area Black Pilots Association, Tuskegee Airmen and Hayward Executive Airport, youth will be able to take to fly and tour the control tower.
