Tennis: Moreau Catholic High School's number-one varsity player, senior Derek Lee, led the Mariners to a 4-3 victory over Arroyo with his 6-0, 6-2 win over Theo Lau. Neil Enriquez (the No. 2 varsity player), No. 4 Ryan Ma, and the doubles team of Shahin Marsband and Anthony Doan were also victorious. Ma had to battle back from a set down, winning a second set tiebreaker in his 1-6, 7-6, 6-3 win.

Mount Eden's number-two player, Randal Rivera, was the only Monarch to win in singles matches, but Mt. Eden was still able to pull out a 4-3 win over Tennyson by winning all three doubles matches. Unfortunately, the Monarchs had no such luck in their next match, losing 7-0 to San Lorenzo.

In the Mission Valley Athletic League, Irvington had a feast-or-famine week, crushing Washington and Newark Memorial by 7-0 scores both times, beating American 6-1, but losing 7-0 to Mission San Jose, who was led by the formidable starting four of Sun, Dankeweicz, Dezoan and Krishna.

Kevin Chen and Xuchen Hu won two matches last week, and then the Irvington top two teamed up and won their doubles match against Newark Memorial. Prithvi Bomdica and Solil Babbar also won twice during the week.

Washington rebounded from their shutout loss to Irvington with a 4-3 win over Newark Memorial.

Golf: Mission San Jose High School sits on top of the leader board after the first round of the MVAL championships (the second round of the tourney takes place on Thursday, April 22), which were contested at Sunol Golf Course. Mission's Kevin Ohkura had the low score of the day with a 74 (par was 72). Newark Memorial's C.J. Hicks is in second place with a 75, and rounding out the top five were Ohkura's teammate Dickeson (77), and two Irvington Vikings: Bryce Yoshimoto (78) and Jonathan Lee (79).

Mission (with a total of 406) leads Irvington (408) by a whisker, and trailing further behind are Kennedy (451), Washington (470) and Newark Memorial (475).

In the Hayward Area Athletic League, Moreau Catholic won both of their matches, beating San Leandro 194-220, and Castro Valley 199-207. Carlos Briones was Moreau's top performer in both contests, shooting a two-under 33 both times, each match being played at Monarch Bay in San Leandro. Blake Thomas helped cement Moreau's wins with his two second-place finishes, shooting a 37 and 39, respectively.

Milpitas High School closed out its season with a 184-194 win over Lynbrook High at Deep Cliff Golf Course on April 8. Jason Kuo was the top individual golfer with a 31. The Trojans finished their season with an 8-3-1 record, and will play in the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League Tournament on April 26-27, at San Juan Oaks Golf Club in Hollister.
