Newark-National Little League's 4- and 5-year old T-ballers, the Raptors, returned home for a dazzling performance against the visiting Grasshoppers on Tuesday, April 13.
Raptors defensive prowess stuneed the Grasshoppers, swarming to every ball off the opponent's bats. At this early juncture of the season, the Raptors are starting to put all the pieces together.
In the first at-bat of the game, the Raptors put together a hit parade, with line drives and ground balls to all parts of the field. For the first time all season, the Raptors had defensive put outs in each inning, with an amazing four putouts in the final frame.
By game's end the Raptors had nine put outs. NNLL's Raptors performed aggressively both on the field and at the plate, taking some great hacks at the ball, making excellent contact. Sometimes the Raptors show a bit too much aggression on the field, taking the ball from our teammates' hands (but at least they are not jumping in a pile like earlier in the season).
Raptors performed well on the base path as well, with everyone running to the correct base.
It was arguable the Raptors best all-around game to date. If they continue to show up with this type of effort every game from here on out, the Raptors will be doing great.
Receiving the game ball for the great Raptors performance was the talented youngster, Andrew, who stood out on defense in the team's best defensive game to date. He had a part in four putouts in the last inning of the game and had a great day at the plate as well.
