Union City Police Department (UCPD) Dispatcher/Clerk Lisa Miller was recognized for her hard work and dedication by Union City's City Council on April 13.
"Female dispatchers have this one week in the year that they are recognized nationally and it's very nice to have something positive rather than just the TV news when we mess up," she stated.
Miller has worked for UCPD since September 2008. She worked for different agencies but chose to return to Union City to retire. For her, the best part of the job is constant activity. "I like to be busy," she pointed out, "because I can't sit still. You're never bored here. You never know when it'll be busy. It means a lot to be recognized by my peers. The officers voted for me because I'm thorough on officer safety. They feel safe when I'm on the radio."
Miller will be recognized again at a banquet for National Telecommunications Week. Agencies of Alameda County will attend including police departments, fire departments, the sheriff's department and American Medical Response dispatchers. |
