A duck worth thousands of dollars is waiting out there to be adopted. The carnival returns to Lake Elizabeth with exciting prizes, featuring thousands of swimming yellow ducks, offering a chance to feather your nest with bucks. All you need is a duck and a little luck. The 16th annual Ducks for Bucks fundraiser will be held on Saturday, April 24 at Fremont's Lake Elizabeth in Central Park.

Each duck will be numbered and the winning entries will be announced at the end of the race. Great prizes in store for winners, if the lucky duck crosses the finish line close to the front. The grand prize this year is $1,500 cash, while first prize is a professional massage for a year at Tereo Chiropractic. Second prize is a $1,800 gift certificate from Signature Floors and third prize is $500 in cash from Fremont Kiwanis Club. Fourth prize will be fine dining in the Tri-Cities at restaurants such as Chili's, Massimo's, BJ's, Texas Roadhouse, PF Chang's and Olive Garden. Fifth prize will be auto detailing by TGIF Body Shop valued at $250, and sixth prize is a $200 gift certificate to Jockey Clothing.

The elusive great grand prize is a car of your choice from Fremont Auto Mall if your specially marked "winning duck" crosses the finish line. To win the great grand prize, a winner's duck has to be one of the specially marked ducks Kiwanis puts in the water each year.

Not much has changed since the very first race. Ducks are unloaded from a truck into the lake and move, usually with assistance of a fire department hose, toward a small winner's gate. Prizes are awarded by the order in which the ducks move through the gate. "It is a great family oriented event with kid's carnival, a jump house, food and other exhibitions," said Event Chair Tom Miller representing the Fremont Kiwanis Club.

"We have about 20-25 non-profits selling ducks signed up this year," said Miller. The money raised will go back to the community through different non-profits. Those interested may contact Miller at (510) 610-0812 or buy ducks on the day of the event.
