Actual classroom instruction will be part of the dedication ceremony of the new James Logan High School Center for the Performing Arts, Wednesday, March 31.
As part of the public tours of the facility that will follow the formal dedication ceremony, students in teacher Debbie Hughes' drama classes, who participated in the Ohlone College Drama Festival, will be recreating and critiquing their performances in the upstairs drama classroom.
The event, free and open to the public, will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and performances from both Logan's Show Choir, under the direction of Erin McShane, and members of the school's championship forensics team, under teacher Tommie Lindsey. Festivities will begin at 4:30 p.m.
The downstairs tenant in the new facility, Logan's nationally renowned music department, will provide entertainment Saturday, May 22, when the New Haven Schools Foundation holds a gala grand opening. The event, featuring a "Show of Shows" created by Logan Director of Bands Ramiro Barrera, will raise funds to purchase a grand piano and/or additional equipment for the new facility. Tickets, priced at $50, can be reserved through Foundation Executive Director Barbara Aro-Valle (471-3850 or Baroemail@example.com.
