On Wednesday, March 17 around 5:30 a.m. at 26115 Hesperian Blvd. in Hayward, robbers smashed the window of Food Mart and stole an ATM which was empty. "We have not arrested anyone and no money was taken. The top of the ATM was sheared only," said Hayward Police Department, Criminal Investigations Bureau, Lt. Christine Orrey. "They backed a van into the glass and wrapped a strap around the top of the ATM. When they took off, it took the top of the ATM with them. No loss occurred, just damage," said Orrey.
According to Police the description of the driver is not known but the passenger who hooked up the ATM was a black male, about 5'11" medium build, wearing a white baseball cap with an "H" on it. The abandoned vehicle used in the robbery, an old white van was recovered in a nearby neighborhood that same day. |
