Compost giveaway at new location
Submitted By Rhonda Rigenhagen
Thousands of people will get an early Earth Day gift when they pick up free compost at Fremont's 15th Annual Compost Giveaway.
This year's event will be 8 a.m. to noon (while supplies last) on Sunday, March 28, at the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station, 41149 Boyce Rd.
To be eligible, recipients must be Fremont residents who have curbside yard waste/food scraps service with Allied Waste Services of Alameda County. Customers must bring their most recent trash bill as proof of program participation to receive two free bags of compost.
The Compost Giveaway is hosted by Allied, BLT, and the City of Fremont.
The bagged compost is the end product of the grass, branches, leaves, food scraps and other organic material that customers set out each week in their green carts. Reusing the compost in yards and gardens helps to close the recycling loop.
