Presentations and Proclamations March 11 was proclaimed as Boy Scouts of America Day in Newark.
Alameda County Congestion Management Agency's (CMA) presentation for the introduction of a vehicle registration fee (VRF) of $10 per vehicle for local street and transportation improvements in Alameda County did not occur. CMA intends to place a VRF measure, requiring a simple majority of 50 percent + 1 to pass, on the November 2010 ballot.
Public Hearings Approved abandoning a portion of Filbert Street right-of-way south of Central Avenue
Approved removal of second dwelling units in residential districts as a conditional use
City Manager Reports Awarded contract to All Star Building Maintenance, Inc., for janitorial services in city Buildings in the amount of $275,826
Awarded contract to Coast Landscape Management for Park and Landscape Maintenance Services in the proposed amount of $39,988 for a contract of approximately three-and-a-half months.
Council Matters Meeting adjourned in the memory of Newark resident, Paul Newton Manley Jr. (1920-2010) who was an Alameda County Sheriff's Reserve Officer in the early 1950's. He served for more than 20 years and was awarded a "Gold" lieutenant's shield.
Oral Communications Residents made suggestions and expressed concern over the city's decision to reduce maintenance services in three of the city's parks - Bridgepointe Park, Mayhews Landing and Mirabeau Park
