Ash Street Park summer program changes

By Meenu Gupta

The Ash Street Park summer program, which would have been eliminated due to budget cuts, will be continued by the efforts of Tri Cities League of Volunteers (LOV). The program will however witness few changes. "It will run like our other summer programs that LOV offers at Civic Center and Mayhews Landing parks," said LOV, Shirley Sisk.

The six-week program will run from Monday through Thursday starting July 12 until August 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. "Breakfast and lunch will be included," said Sisk. The program is for ages 5 to 12 and will no longer serve teenagers. For the 30th year, Tri Cities League of Volunteers will continue to offer supervised outdoor activities to kids.

"It is going to double the cost from what we have budgeted, we also need more staff, we will hire park leaders and park assistants in each park," said Sisk. With around 350 children to care for, LOV welcomes community support. Those interested in making donations or volunteering should contact Joanne Paletta at (510) 793-5683.
