Planning Commission to review Walmart expansion
By Meenu Gupta
The proposed expansion of the Milpitas Walmart will be reviewed by the Planning Commission meeting in March. The date has yet to be set.
According to Assistant Planner Cindy Hom, the Planning Commission will review site development. Walmart's desired expansion of its store also includes extending their use permit to add grocery and alcohol sales and 24-hour opening.
"The Final EIR has been released and is available on the city's website," said Hom.
The Milpitas Coalition for a Better Community is opposed to the Walmart Supercenter project for several reasons, including concerns about job losses, neighborhood blight and the proposed sale of alcohol at the site. Representatives of the newly-formed Coalition have submitted more than 300 letters and cards in opposition to the Planning Commission.
"The Coalition is having its next meeting on the project on Wednesday, February 24 at 7 p.m. in Room A, Milpitas Public Library. The public is welcome to attend," said Coalition member Bill Ferguson.
