Citizen of the Year 2010
By Meenu Gupta
Nominations are being accepted for the prestigious 2010 Milpitas Citizen of the Year award. Each year the Knights of Columbus Council 5796, a fraternal, non-profit group focused on council, family, church, community and youth activities, acknowledges a citizen who has given selflessly to the community outside job-related activities.
The selection committee assesses a nominee's contribution to the City of Milpitas and how the person has improved the community's quality of life through active volunteerism in organizations. Nominees will be judged on current and past evidence of leadership and achievements. Nominees need not reside in Milpitas; names are withheld from the judges so that "candidates" are assessed solely on their qualifications in four categories - civic or community service, business or professional service/accomplishment, charitable or religious service, educational or school service.
Nominators should include the following information: nominee's name, address, occupation and the number of years the nominee has been involved with Milpitas. Details on how the person has benefitted the Milpitas community, with his/her accomplishments, should be mentioned. The nominator's own name, address and phone number should also be included.
The 2010 Citizen of the Year will be recognized along with the Police Officer and Firefighter of the Year at the Knights of Columbus 36th Annual Awards Dinner on Saturday, April 10 at 6:30 p.m., Pavalkis Hall, St. John's Parish, 279 South Main St., Milpitas.
