February 24, 2010 > Chabot College captures first place Chabot College captures first place Submitted By Patricia Russell The Chabot College Forensics team took first place in the Community College category at a recent tournament, and placed second overall among all competitors, finishing just behind San Francisco State. Of the 25 events Chabot entered, the team took home awards in 18 of them. The majority of awards were at the Varsity level. Samantha Briggs First Place, Novice Impromptu and Novice Extemporaneous Speaking Ricardo Ponce Top Community College Speaker Second Place, Interpretation Speaker Third Place, Varsity Duo, Varsity Prose, Varsity Dramatic Interpretation Steven Mireles and Claudia Carvajal Semi-finalists, Parliamentary Debate Jessica Hollie Second Place, Novice Extemporaneous Speaking Steven Mireles Second Place, Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking Fourth Place, Varsity Impromptu Claudia Carvajal Fifth Place, Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking, Varsity Impromptu Speaking Toan Nguyen Second Place, Varsity Impromptu Fourth Place, Varsity Programmed Oral Interpretation Sixth Place, Varsity Extemporaneous Speaking Fatima Ansary and Ricardo Ponce Third Place, Varsity Duo Interpretation Arturo Diaz Fourth Place, Novice Impromptu Fifth Place, Varsity Poetry Dillon Harrison Third Place, Varsity Programmed Oral Interpretation Titawny Cook Sixth Place, Varsity Impromptu Speaking Chabot also scored high at the Santa Clara University Invitational with two of its four teams advancing to the Varsity level. "This year Chabot College Forensics has established itself as one of the strongest Community College Forensics programs in Northern California," said Jason Ames, director of forensics and communication studies instructor at Chabot College.
