Proclamations and Presentations
Recognized February 14, 2010 as "League of Women Voters Making Democracy Work Day" and presented League of Women Voters with a proclamation of its 90th birthday. Sets Amann, League of Women Voters representative for Fremont, Union City and Newark, accepted the proclamation.
Recognized February 2010 as "Art is Education" Month. Diane La Mountaine, president of the Arts Association of the East Bay, accepted the proclamation.
Authorized the City Manager to execute a contract amendment with ROMA Design Group to design and prepare construction drawings for the East Plaza in the Station District.
Adopted a resolution in support of the Local Taxpayer, Public Safety and Transportation Protection Act. If a Measure is placed on the statewide ballot and passes, local revenues will no longer be subject to certain state actions. This includes preventing the state from appropriating dedicated transportation and public transit funds and local taxpayer funds that were intended for vital local government services, such as public safety and fire.
Heard Q2 General Fund quarterly report for the period Oct 1-Dec 31, 2009 and amended General Fund operating budget for FY 2009-10.
Approved recommendations to impose Employment, Compensation and Benefits Terms and Conditions for FY 2009-10 for Service Employees International Union, Local 1021. (4 "YES" votes; 1 "NO" vote (Valle).
City Commission/Committee Reports
Presentation and recommendation from the Sister City Committee was made to formation of a sister city relationship with the City of Liyang, China, as Union City's fifth Sister City. Mei Ling Zhou, chair of Union City's 50th Anniversary Lunar New Year Committee, and Pat Gacoscos, Union Sanitary District Board member, presented.
