Legal Aid Clinics
Submitted By Suzanne Bischalaney
The Fremont Family Resource Center (FRC) is excited to begin a new collaboration with Bay Area Legal Aid to offer legal services to Tri-City residents through monthly clinics at the FRC beginning Thursday, February 18. The legal clinics are open to low-income residents of Union City, Fremont, and Newark by appointment only, and will be held on the third Thursday of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. An application form must be completed and submitted to the FRC to request an appointment for an upcoming clinic.
Bay Area Legal Aid offers free assistance with civil legal problems in the areas of housing, public benefits, health care access, domestic violence with related family law issues, and youth justice. This assistance may include legal advice, referrals, and possible representation for eligible clients.
The Fremont Family Resource Center is a non-profit collaborative of 27 state, county, city, and non-profit service agencies working together to serve the Tri-City Area. This cooperative effort with Bay Area Legal Aid will provide a great resource for residents who are experiencing difficulties in any number of issues, including housing discrimination; a potential loss of public or subsidized housing; wrongful termination or denial of public assistance benefits including Cal Works and food stamps; difficulties in accessing Medi-Cal or Medicare benefits; and much more. FRC also offers counseling and case management services, as well as a highly successful Family Economic Success Program, which includes the largest Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site in the Bay Area.
