Submitted By Ray Mitra
Induz, a non-profit organization that aims to connect people and cultures through different art forms, organized the 'Sing for Art' program on January 22 at Swagat Restaurant in Fremont. Bay Area Karaoke event was dedicated to benefit the children of Haiti impacted by the catastrophic earthquake. The non-profit organization raised over $1000 for the children of Haiti impacted by the severe earthquake. 100% of the funds will be donated to UNICEF for the children of Haiti.
There was an overwhelming outpouring of contributions and support by the community. Although this is just a drop in the ocean of what Haiti needs, Induz's effort to bring the community together and make a difference is exemplary. Manjula Gupta, Advisory Board member for Induz and founder of TV program, Chai With Manjula, addressed the audience at the event and spoke about the values of giving. A moment of silence was observed to pay respect to the victims of the earthquake.
"It saddens my heart to see the massive destruction and the sufferings the Haitians are going through. I am happy that we were able raise awareness and funds for Haiti," said organization's founder, Ray Mitra. Induz's current initiatives include providing art and music education program for an orphanage in Bangalore, India; and another in Assam, India. Its upcoming initiative will be for an orphanage in a rural part of West Bengal India.
