Santa Clara County to honor local legend
Submitted By Steve Blomquist
At Supervisor Dave Cortese's request, the Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors unanimously voted to name the pharmacy in the new Valley Health Center in Milpitas, the "Sal Cracolice Pharmacy." The Board also heard testimony from community members, including Cracolice's son, Bob Cracolice, about Sal's positive impact on the City of Milpitas and the appropriateness of recognizing his service.
"'Mr. Milpitas' was instrumental in making Milpitas the quality city that it is today," said Supervisor Dave Cortese, representing District Three which encompasses the City of Milpitas. "His leadership made Milpitas a leading city in Santa Clara County and it is our duty to give Sal Cracolice the recognition he deserves and to continue his legacy in Silicon Valley."
Being the first pharmacist in Milpitas in the 1920's was not enough for Cracolice; he quickly immersed himself in the city's development and developed a life-long love for Milpitas. Cracolice was instrumental in launching the initiative to create a town and civic center and had the foresight to bring the local business community and the city government together to solve problems facing the city and to strengthen the city's growth.
