Dumbarton Transit Oriented Development Community Meeting

By Meenu Gupta

Public is invited to participate in a community meeting to learn about a plan for a new neighborhood in Newark. In 2008 the City Council approved the concept of a transit and pedestrian oriented residential community adjacent to the intersection of Willow Road and Enterprise Drive. This area has previously been referred to as Area 2. Over the past months, studies have been underway to analyze the area and refine the concept for this new neighborhood. "At this Community Meeting we will unveil the latest Land Use Plan for this neighborhood. It would be a high quality-primarily home-ownership-community with a pedestrian and transit orientation," said Community Development Director, Terrence Grindall. The primary housing type would be townhomes, with some single family detached homes and apartment/condo style housing. "Our goal is that this project would provide key amenities to the community: a) high quality retail; b) construction of public parks and trails; c) connections regional open space."

At this community meeting the opportunities and constraints of the site will be described, a draft land use plan will be shown and potential community amenities: stores, parks and trails will be discussed. The schedule for the Specific Plan will also be provided. Residents will have the opportunity to share your ideas and concerns. "This is not a discussion of the proposed Dumbarton Rail Service itself- but of a residential community in the area of this future transit hub. I would also like to point out that this planning process is not funded by the City, it is funded by a grant and by the property owners," said Grindall. Pizza and Soft Drinks will be provided.
