Logan to host Olympic track and field clinic

Under the direction of track & field coach Lee Webb, the 22nd Annual Olympians' Track & Field Clinic will be held Saturday, Feb. 13, at James Logan High School in Union City from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Introduction of the special guests and clinicians runs from 9-10 a.m.; morning session spans from 10 a.m.-noon; lunch (bring your own) goes from noon-1 p.m.; and the afternoon session goes from 1:15-4 p.m. Each group will have a wrap-up from 3-4 p.m. It is a learn-by-doing clinic to inspire and encourage students about the sport and to keep their bodies fit.
Registration is from 8-9 a.m. or you can register online and use either a credit card or PayPal account. Fee is $25 for adults; $10 youths (11 and under); and $350 for a team. All fees include track and field information bags.
Special guests include:
Kevin Young, world record holder 400 meter hurdles;
Stephanie Brown-Trafton, 2008 gold medalist in discus;
Eddie Hart, world's fastest human in 1972;
Andre Phillips, 1988 400 meter hurdles Olympic champion;
Billy Mills, 1964 gold medalist 10,000 meters;
Nkosinza Balumb, seven time All-American NCAA triple jump champion;
Aaron Thigpen, elite sprint coach world class sprinters;
"Crazy George" Henderson, professional cheerleader;
Many clinicians will be in attendance, supporting all those in need. Clinicians include George Walcott, Olympic sprint coach; Miflin Jones, coach at Castro Valley High School; John Garvey, Olympian discus thrower; Kevin Stange, former Cal pole vault jumper; Amy Thiel, former national record holder in the hammer; Talia Stewart, All-American in hurdles at USC; Marilyn King, three-time Olympian in the pentathlon; Al Hernandez, Olympian in the marathon; and many more.
Additional highlights include free bags of assorted track and field materials; Willie Davenport, Billy Mills and Stephanie Brown-Trafton trading cards; coaches notebook with 200 pages of current track and field information of all the track and field events; Special Olympians from all over California; individual event information and workout plans; and vendors and tables full of track and field information.
Event location starting places are: throws, Old Gym; distance, Student Union; long jump/triple jump, long jump area; high jump, high jump pit; hurdles, track starting line; sprints/relays, track finish line; pole vault, pole vault area; youths, Pavilion; and race walking, Student Union.
