Bill Mancebo's player spotlight: Rhianna Soares
This week the player spotlight finds Rhianna Soares.
Soares, 13, is a soccer expert and plays for the U-13 96 Mission Valley United (MVU) Girls Black team. The MVU is a league that offers competition in a higher division for accelerated players.
Rhianna began playing soccer with FC Fremont nine years ago and has garnered much of her experience at the forward and midfield positions. Soares also enjoys school-league basketball and plans to continue both sports into her high school years. This much athletic activity doesn't require alternative exercise conditioning for this young lady as her combined practice and play schedules keep her active almost every day of the week.
Attending Thornton Jr. High is a pleasure (not a chore) for Rhianna with PE as a favorite subject. This giving girl plans on having a premier teaching career for herself someday soon with helping others as her main focus (although she says she would probably not turn down an offer to go pro). Now in seventh grade, Rhianna hopes to soon be teaching sixth graders for a living but will always maintain her soccer skills as she is more than passionate about the sport.
Her hobbies are quite simple. For outdoor activities soccer remains at the top of her list. Rhianna likes to network with friends using Facebook as the utility but that might also be because playing Farmville is so much fun. Staying up late to catch Saturday Night Live is another highlight, especially when Justin Timberlake is a scheduled guest. She also has some travels in her future, with Hawaii and Europe as planned destinations.
What's for dinner? If Rhianna has it her way, it could be pepperoni pizza, egg rolls or maybe both! There's only one favorite dessert though and you can bet it will be mint chocolate chip ice cream.
