Presentations Proclamation for Earth Hour on March 27. Recognized Lucy Carlton, Andrew (Huy) La and Steve Tao for their service on the Terrace Gardens Board of Directors.
Consent Calendar Approved mayoral recommendations for appointments and re-appointments to the Community Advisory Commission, Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Advisory Commission, Economic Development Commission and Veterans Commission and waived the requirement that residents may only serve on one commission at a time.
Approved Community Advisory Commission 2010 Work Plan which consists of projects and programs benefitting the Milpitas community, such as the Neighborhood Beautification Ordinance, the Heritage Tree Ordinance, hosting town hall meetings, participation in neighborhood and creek conservation activities and community tree planting events
Received monthly Economic Development Report Approved Youth Sports Assistance Fund grant request from Milpitas Knights PAL Football in the amount of $1,000, for football helmets and shoulder pads to meet football safety requirements. This leaves $500 Youth Sports Assistance Fund for the remainder of FY 2009-10.
Repealed various sections (obsolete, unused or superseded by state law) of the Milpitas Municipal Code. This is proposed to be an annual action to ensure Code is up-to-date.
Amended Joint Powers Agreement (dated Dec 1, 1994) for administration of the Santa Clara County Congestion Management Program. This will reconfigure City groups, from which representatives to the VTA Board are selected, except for San Jose and Santa Clara County. Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Milpitas will form a new group and appoint two VTA Board members and one alternate. The change applies to terms starting January 2012.
Authorized City Manager to execute a contract with artist Mary Ann Baker for "Generations" public art project in an amount not to exceed $86,500. The commission is for four artistic and functional benches around the new Senior Center where members can wait for rides and from which they can enjoy the Civic Center Plaza and admire the Milpitas landscape.
Public Hearing Following a public hearing, directed the County Agricultural Commission to proceed with the Weed Abatement Program and provide Council with an assessment list, as per Milpitas Municipal Code.
Redevelopment Agency Received staff report on Federal Economic Stimulus Program formally known as the "American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA)" and city projects to which funds have been applied.

Public Forum A resident reminded Council she is seeking the city's advice on grey water issues, permits, etc. to roll out Abundance Gardens, a project that organizes classes to teach people how to create home gardens to grow fresh produce and plants.
Frank de Schmidt announced the Chamber of Commerce's 17th annual Crab Feed on Friday, March 5 and invited Council. |
