Successful rescue of trapped motorist

Submitted By Milpitas Fire Department

Four units from Milpitas Fire Stations 1 and 3 responded to a vehicle-accident-rollover in the third lane on south-bound I-680, north of Jacklin Road at 10:17 p.m. on January 20.

Fire apparatus, arranged in a diagonally-stacked pattern, was used to block the second, third and fourth lanes for 30 minutes to provide a safe area for the victim and in which crews could work. Milpitas police laid flares for additional safety. Traffic control was used to slow other motorists.

On-scene fire units used the "Jaws of Life" to remove two doors to extricate the victim from the rolled vehicle.

A paramedic ambulance from American Medical Response (AMR) transferred the victim to the nearest trauma center (Regional Medical Center). There were no fatalities and firefighters sustained no injuries.
