Third homicide in Hayward in 2010

Submitted By Lt. Christine Orrey

Hayward Police dispatch received a report on Sunday, January 17 at 10:42 p.m. of a shooting at Mike's Sports Bar, 25101 Clawiter Road, Hayward.

According to investigators, a promoter rented the venue under the ruse of a Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration and fundraiser. The event was actually a large-scale party which had been heavily promoted as a club-style event with hip-hop and rap music. City permits were not sought or obtained.

During the event, there were at least two fights inside the bar, prompting the owner of the business to end the party. Guests were escorted off the premises by security and began to fill the parking lot areas where shots were heard amongst the crowd.

The victim, 21-year old Deandre Bailey of Oakland, was shot by unknown suspect(s). He was transported to Eden Hospital, Castro Valley, where he was pronounced dead from his wounds.

Anybody who attended this event is urged to contact Hayward Police Department as soon as possible. Anybody with information about this incident should call Inspector Ritchie or any available inspector or detective through the Crime Stoppers line at (510) 293-7197.

This is Hayward's third homicide of 2010. There were seven homicides in Hayward in 2009.

Crime Stoppers of Southern Alameda County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest. To be eligible for the reward, you must call the Crime Stoppers of Alameda County Hotline at (510) 293-7197. Callers may be anonymous and get a reward.
